Original Works of John Gould - Centennial Art Exhibition February 10 - March 5, 2006 A special centennial art exhibition of the original works by John Fleming Gould (1906 - 1996) will be held February 10 - March 5, 2006 at the Hudson Valley Gallery, 246 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. An opening reception is planned for Friday, Feb.10th, from 6 - 8pm.
An information talk about the John Gould Exhibition will be given by Paul Gould at 2pm at the Hudson Valley Gallery on March 5, 2006.
For over seventy years, John Gould created, illustrated and painted a wide variety of scenes that have appeared in major magazines and in advertising media. His love of the Hudson River Valley is reflected in the many paintings of his last twenty years.
Visitors to the exhibition will see original art used for G-8 and the War Aces stories of the 1930's, advertising ad for the General Electric Co., Saturday Evening Post illustrations for the 1940's magazine, Outdoor Life action paintings and other unique artwork by the artist.
The grandeur of the Hudson Valley is highlighted by a collection of large format originals featuring the Harriman Fountain and Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge. The artist's illustrations and paintings characterize the use of well-defined composition and color that bring in-depth beauty to the work.
John & Mary Gould founded the Bethlehem Art Gallery in 1957 in Cornwall. Their three sons, Robert, William & Paul, now exhibit a full line of prints and offer custom framing at the Bethlehem Art Gallery in Salisbury Mills, NY.
